Mortgage Interest Rates remain at near historical lows! Freddie Mac reports 30-year fixed loans are 4.75% and 15-year rates are 4.20%.
Mortgage interest rates have hovered at 5 percent or less since early May as concern about the European debt crisis pushed investors to the safety of Treasuries and government-supported bonds tied to home loans. The Federal Reserve probably won’t tighten monetary policy for a “significant period of time,” the San Francisco Fed said in a study released June 14.
The Mortgage Bankers Association’s index of U.S. mortgage applications jumped almost 18 percent for the week ended June 11, the same time Freddie Mac’s 30-year fixed rate fell to 4.72 percent.
